Grey hair is considered a sign of grown older. But several other factors also contribute in graying hair like stress, smoking, excessive use of shampoo, conditioner and gel. As the gray hair appears people try to dye them. A most common question asked can grey hair covered with henna? Yes it can be. Henna is one of the old and widely used products for coloring. Henna contains compounds that stain the hair or skin a dark red or brown color and this makes it a wonderful natural hair dye. Our article is telling you how you can use henna to cover gray hair and get beautiful locks. There are certain points those need your attention before you are going to apply henna.
Preparing Henna Paste for Grey Hair

Combine henna in sesame oil and curry leaves. For this purpose boil sesame oil and a few curry leaves; strain oil and keep this mixture in an air tight bottle. Whenever you want to henna your hair, heat the extract and add in the henna then apply on hair and leave for 3-4 hours. Wash it off with shikakai.
If you like burgundy shade, make juice of beetroot and mix this juice into henna to make a paste.
For a more reddish-brown color, mix henna with some lemon juice and curd along with some tea decoction.
Use Coffee to Cover Grey Hair
Mix henna in hot black coffee to make paste and leave on hair for 3-4 hours. You can also add egg, olive oil and yogurt to henna for conditioning dry hair.
Tea for Grey Hair
Boil 2 cups of water and add 2 tbsp black tea, boil until 1 cup left. Keep aside to cool down.
Take 1 beetroot and cut into chunks, boil it in 2 cups water until 1 cup left. Allow cooling.
When both liquids are cool, strain them and mix together.
Add liquid in 1 cup henna powder, 1 egg yolk and 1 tbsp oil and mix completely. Place it on warm place, cover with wrap and allow importing color for 4-6 hours.
You can also store liquid for later use.
Application of Henna Paste on Grey Hair
Use Clarifying Shampoo
Natural oils, shampoo, conditioning and styling product’s build up affected more on grey hair then the non grey hair. Thus it is important to remove product build up from the hair. Use clarifying shampoo for this purpose; it will prepare your hair ready for applying henna.
Cover Face and Neck
Cover your face and neck for avoiding henna stick to any other part of body. If it leaves a stain on your body, immediately wash it out.
Wear gloves and apply henna paste on each strand of grey hair with brush and cover nicely.
Cover Hennaed with Cling Film
After applying henna cover it with cling film because if henna dry early it will slow down the dye process. It is best to cover hennaed head with cling film for getting the best result. Leave henna on hair for 4 hours or more for a good result.
Alternately you can also cover hair after henna application with warm cloth. Warmness tends to improve the color of henna.
When it comes to rinse henna it is also a task. To make it easy and less messy, fill out bath sink or large bowl with water and soak your hair in water for a few minutes. This soaking process will loosen the henna then use your shower to wash it completely.
Precautions for Better Results
Henna has the quality to get color faster if applied more then 1 time. Avoid applying it consecutively for more than 3 times. Also keep a gap of 3-4 days between each application.
Avoid shampooing hair after first application of henna on grey hair. Shampoo contains chemical so it will wash away the color got from henna as henna needs one day to get fast color on hair. After one day wash hair with shampoo.
Note: After dying hair with henna it will take at least three days in developing color.
